Filip Naudts (Gent, 1968) start zijn carrière als setfotograaf bij de Vlaamse publieke omroep VRT (toen BRTN). Daarna gaat hij aan de slag als fotodocumentalist in het Antwerpse FotoMuseum (1992-2001) en als fotorecensent bij het Nederlandse vakblad FOTO (2001-2006).

Maar sinds de oprichting van zijn fotostudio ‘Guarda La Fotografia’ (1993) en zijn solotentoonstelling in het Nationaal Technologisch Museum van Tsjechië in Praag (2000) is Naudts vooral ook zelf als praktiserend kunstenaar niet meer weg te denken uit de hedendaagse fotografiescene.

Gestaag drukt hij met een eigen ontwikkelde stijl zijn stempel op de markt. Toch is het pas in 2006 dat hij de fundering sterk genoeg acht om te bouwen aan een carrière als fulltime artistiek portret- en persfotograaf. De persaandacht zwelt aan waardoor zijn foto’s meer dan ooit hun weg vinden naar het grote publiek.

Filip Naudts is nu een begrip, met de herkenbaarheid van zijn werk als voornaamste troef. Of hij nu eigen werk creëert in functie van tentoonstellingen of fotografeert in opdracht van zowat alle populaire Vlaamse magazines, in beide gevallen is Filip Naudts gefascineerd door zowel de afbeelding van de schoonheid als door de relativering ervan. Esthetisch verlangen, gespekt door een queeste naar absurditeit.

Filip Naudts (Ghent/Belgium, 1968) began his career working for the Belgian national television and press in 1992. The following year, he was employed by the Antwerp FotoMuseum (1993 - 2002). From 2001 to 2006 he was a photo editor for the Dutch professional photo magazine FOTO. In 2006 he started his career as a fulltime freelance photographer.

The foundation of his own photo studio ‘Guarda La Fotografia’ (1993) and a solo exhibition of his work in the National Technological Museum in Prague (2000) were landmark moments in his life and career. Since then he has built a solid reputation as an artist-photographer.

In 2006 he decided to dedicate himself fully to a more artful style of photography, with a special focus on portraits. These pictures, instantly recognizable as ‘Naudts’, through their style, artful settings and humor, received great media attention. Both the public and the press embraced Naudts’ special style and nowadays he is one of the most sought after portrait photographers.

Filip Naudts is probably one of the most compelling, thought-provoking photographing artists of his country and generation. Fascinated by portraying beauty and at the same time, by adding a small humorous often surreal element to the image, showing the relativity of it.
